Add some wide angle to your Diana Mini squares!

16

Ok, we know all that the lens of Diana Mini is already a very wide one with it’s fantastic 24mm lens. But what if we try to have a much wider view on the Diana Mini square shots??

We all love our Diana Mini, so sweet and cute and I’m a big fan of it’s wide 24mm lens, producing some extraordinary square shots on a 35mm film. But one thing we lomographers like, is to play with different lenses, change the angles of view and the Diana Mini’s big sister, Diana F+, is a champion for that as there’s a whole set of different lenses to use. But unfortunately, Diana Mini has a fixed lens and you can’t really use the Diana F+ lens set with the mini…
The idea of this tipster came to me in a very simple way: I had in one hand my Diana Mini and in the other hand the fantastic LC-A wide Angle lens. Automatically I tried to put the wide angle lens on the Diana Mini to see if it could fit, and…. yes, they fit perfectly!!! The only thing you need to do is to fix the wide angle lens on the Mini body… Some black tape and a few seconds later the operation was done, transforming my Diana Mini in a wide angle monster!! Oh, and don’t forget, before taping the LC-A wide angle lens, to set the focus distance of the mini on infinite to get the best results…

Of course, I wasn’t so sure about the results but when I saw the negatives, the shots looked really great and wide! To know exactly what king of focal length I had with this combination I found on the web an interesting lens combination calculator and when adding the 24mm lens of the Diana Mini and the 20mm LC-A wide angle lens you get a stunning 11mm focal length equivalent! Of course, it’s a perhaps a bit less spectacular on square shots than on traditional 24×36mm ones, but I like the results! :)

After I made this first wide angle mini experience, I read this fantastic tipster by cubilas transforming the LC-A wide angle lens in a fantastic wide angle close-up/macro lens by reversing the rear lens part of the Wide angle LC-A lens. So I thought I could try this out as well and fix it again on my Diana Mini for some wide angle close-up mini squares! And here are the results of this new combo!

So, if you have a Diana Mini and the LC-A Wide Angle lens, try these 2 great combinations out for a wide angle square fun!

@wuxiong: well, I presume that you can try to fix any other lens that fits on the Diana Mini's one...
@stouf: yes, Diana Mini makes the Maximum!! :))) And I think that the LCA Wide Angle lens can be fixed easily (with tape) on some other cameras... :)
