Anyone out there remember The Beachcombers? It is the longest running series in Canadian television history (for English programming anyway), running from 1972 to 1990. It was filmed in and around Gibsons, BC and featured the stunning scenery of the area, both on land and at sea.

The Vancouver downtown east side has quite a story and history. It is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Vancouver, B.C. At the turn of the 20th century, this was the heart of Vancouver (Hastings st. & Main St.) Everything was there, the main library, the banks, City hall, fantastic shopping and even the Wood wards Department Store. The great photographer Fred Herktzog focussed much of his time to this area.

The amazingly beautiful Old Salt building and Olympic Village area of Vancouver. This area was transformed for the 2010 Winter Olympics. Situated on False Creek this spectacular location is must visit for Lomographers at any time of day. At night it is particularly worth a visit.

The City of Vancouver just recently experienced its biggest Winter snowfall since 1967. Traditionally Vancouver does not get a lot of snow or any at all but this year 2ft of snow fell in the city itself, it made for hazardous traveling conditions with the airport delays, train cancellations, buses not running, cars being stranded everywhere. The City itself was unprepared.

During the Olympics, large portions of downtown Vancouver were closed off to traffic and became for pedestrians only, leading to some really fantastic street life. But now that the Olympics are over, is there anything left to the area aside from fantastic shopping, delicious restaurants, and really good venues? Definitely! There's still loads to do even on a tight budget.

From street level at the Harbor Centre building in Vancouver you can ride the elevator to The Lookout, a 360 degree observatory high above the city. It's open all day from about 9 am to 10 pm and your ticket is valid for the whole day, so you can go back for night shots. It costs about $13 per person. The elevator is on the outside of the building which is great for views too.

It's one of our favourite places to dine, mainly because of the design and décor, you'll wish your dining room at home was like this. A bank of TV screens behind the bar keeps the sports fans happy. The restaurant seating is mostly booths that seat 4, with cool dim lighting, very snug and cozy. The menu is the usual west coast fusion, I can only recommend the Steaks, and these are always good. Other items include Ahi Tuna, Endamame, and Fajitas. For drinks, Margaritas are popular, in many flavors.

Ogden Point is located at the entrance to Victoria's Inner Harbor, and serves as the major deep water port for the city. Visiting Naval Vessels and Cruise ships dock here regularly.

Even though it's a 1300 km drive from my home, this is the place that I need to go to at least every other year. There's just something in the air and the atmosphere here that relaxes me like no place else.

It's a sad story really, not far from the excellent Vancouver Aquarium, just a short walk of about 100 meters you will find an abandoned Polar Bear Pit which was once a part of the now defunct Stanley Park Zoo.

This night market has something for everyone. Open from 7 pm to midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sundays from May to October. There are lots of stalls/vendors with gadgets, clothing, flowers, Korean stationary (my favorite is Afro Ken), cell phones & accessories, traditional Asian products, lucky bamboo... and on... and on... Bring plenty of cash!!! Stuff is cheap but most don't take credit cards.

This always seems like a park made up of many little parks to me. Probably because I get a little turned around and occasionally lost every time I visit this little piece of west coast paradise. There are delicately manicured gardens, fountains, monuments, a petting zoo, and much more. The fresh coastal air and well kept grounds keep me coming back.

Who doesn't love those sunny summer days? Or enjoy going to an outdoor heated pool? In Vancouver we have 2 favourites, 2nd Beach Pool in Stanley Park (pictured here) and Kitsilano Pool which is great for the more serious lane-swimmers. 2nd Beach Pool has 2 small slides and it's right on the edge of the ocean, the scenery is amazing. Bikes and roller-blades whiz by on the seawall, floatplanes in the sky, forest to the rear with raccoons, geese, swans, eagles and more.

The City of North Vancouver lies to the north of downtown Vancouver, across the Burrard Inlet. Excellent views of Downtown skyline and North Shore Mountains can be seen. I love the ferries that operate on False Creek in the heart of Vancouver. Looking down on False Creek from one of the 3 bridges that connect Downtown Vancouver to Vancouver West they dart about the inlet like water boatmen skating on a pond. False Creek not only attracts the tourists and day-trippers that come to town for an amusing diversion on the water but it also is much loved by the local residents of this fabulous and unique city. False Creek is surrounded by some of the city's most enticing attractions.
